Asalaamu Alaikum.
Sorry for not making a Ramadan Diary Day Three, my day three was basically insipid, well, all except for the amazing steak stir fry that I had for dinner. To be wholly honest, day four wasn't all that interesting either. However, I wanted to write.
I've really stepped my modesty up a notch since Ramadan began. It's hard, with the heat and the sudden layers of clothing, but all in all it's been rewarding and I'm getting more use to it. I think dressing more appropriately has been one of the biggest struggles for me, because I can't wear a shin length puffy dress without needing leggings or jeans underneath. Luckily, I've found a few basic pieces of clothing that I need, and I've put them together in what may be the most comfortable way I've ever dressed and I look good.
My first staple is a basic dress. Nothing too tight or revealing, and long so that it covers your bottom.
It looks cute but still keeps you modest!
I found this one for $34.50 at Old Navy. It comes in a soft pink as well! Click here to check it out.
Cover your arms with a cute basic cardigan. I prefer ones with no pattern, or a simple stripe. However, you can always play up a solid dress with a bold, shocking pattern.
Get a thin loose knit one for the summer, or a thick sweater kind for winter. This one is only $29.50 at Old Navy. They have a lovely array of sweaters and numerous colors for most designs.
This one comes in four colors; plummy mummy, marshmallow white, light heather gray, and black jack. Click here to see in detail why I love it.
With a dress this length, you need jeans. You could dress it up with slacks, but I like the more casual style.
These were again at Old Navy for $19.50. Click here to see them and other styles.
I tend to choose hijabs that clash with my outfits (like a green and blue hijab with a black cardigan and pink dress). This works at times, but taking a color or two from the out fit gives a more pulled together look.
Instead of screaming, I don't have many options, your outfit will politely state, Yeah, I know what I'm doing.
This one comes in plum, tan, black, royal, and gray. I found this one at Al Hannah for $9.99 Click here to check it out.
I've paired outfits like this every day since last Sunday. I woke up this morning and was very agitated that I couldn't find a dress! I found one eventually, Alhamdulillah. I usually can find these kinds of pieces on clearance at Kohls.com and Oldnavy.com. I plan to go find myself some more dresses :D
