In the name of God, compassionate & merciful بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ Peace be with you السلام عليكم
While you're out and about Eid shopping for people you love, think about how your gifts will
affect the recipients. Are your gifts helpful? Do they enlighten, educate or emancipate? If you have already bought the perfect present for the faithful fakir good on you! Otherwise, celebrate
Eid-ul-Adha 2010 with a few treasures from below...

This paperback book is colourfully illustrated and follows the alphabet A to Z with Islamic manners and morals. Dua`s (
adeyah) and quotes are translated into Arabic with contemporary English, so you won't get lost in translation. It's a keeper! And cheap.
A recent quote by Adbal-Hakim Murad said "It would benefit every person greatly to learn a first language." While you muse over the implications of that, get your favourite masjid-goer a book of spoken Arabic phrases to communicate better. Hopefully they won't misunderstand the gesture. Jaldi! Ya'ani, jaldi!
I'm building quite a Walmart collection of Islamic inspired tshirts. Profound Aesthetic is as decribed, the designs and slogans have a profound effect on your 'ilm (knowledge). If you're after something edgier, try
More Cult,
MiiM,
Cube-Apparel, and the ethical
Urban Ummah (featured on Green Prophet).
As a primary and secondary school teacher there is nothing that can compensate for the "enculturation" of a child. When you educate a child with values, people skills and morals, you instill in them a sense of awareness for their own identity and respect for the 'other'. Hajj packs from Sound Vision do just that. Excellent stuff for schools ($23.95).
This is a cool concept and with a few issues out now Muslim Quarterly is making a stand: We're Muslim men, we have image issues too, we cry but when no-one's watching so back off! Fun stuff.
- And for your mini ones, subscribe to the Little Explorers' Magazine, the first Muslim children's magazine. (My friends' have produced LEM - BarakAllah fikum!)
 |
Issue 2: The Hajj 'zine from Little Explorers. Adorable. |
- Reminiscing your childhood toys and games?
Don't spoil your children with "Eidy cash", give them a piece of
halal toy history from Hawkins Bazaar. Gifts are categorised by price and age so you won't have difficulty figuring out the right present for your handful of joy.
Alright, that's me Eid-mas bribery done for 2010. I will remind readers to give to charity the equal amount of what they give closer to home.
Eid-ul-Adha Mubarak, make du`a,
Your friendly Muslim blogger,
Zaufishan.

In the name of God, compassionate & merciful بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ | Peace be with you السلام عليكم
- Order someone else a tailored (made to measure) abaya from Etsy.
- Buy unique Islamic engraved jewellery by Deen Carrier. (I did!)
More gift ideas:
- Find a duff, practise a nasheed song and play a game of 'guess that tune'. Or, opt for the easier option of 'donate £1/$1 towards my public karaoke'. [Buy a book of Eid songs]. Donate that collection to the nearest charity.
- If you're feeling creative, style small bread baskets with gifts and give to all your visitors on Eid. You could even sell them. (I do!)
- Make / sell iftar packs of dates and chocolates and give all proceeds to the poorest person you know.
- Take all the women on your street for a mass Eid salah. Make sure to order several babysitters for their children.
- Make your own goody bags and donate to children's wards at the local hospital!
- Pay for someone's Eid meal.

In the name of God, compassionate & merciful بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ | Peace be with you السلام عليكم
Hope you're all doing good inshallah, just thought I'd share something we (muslimness team) caught our eye on while browsing for Eid gifts online. We found two
lovely handmade collections of gifts for 'her' by the brill online Islamic gift store
'Sirrat'.
All their gifts are exclusive and of an extremely
high quality, unlike most 'Islamic' gifts we find, alhamdulilah. Sirrat's slogan is 'designed to remind' and all their items most certainly live up to that. Check out the store
here.
I personally really like the two collections as the items are all matching, very useful and so cute! Check out the 'Pink Blossom' collection
here, and the 'Stiletto' collection
here.
Oh and you have to check out ALL the gifts they have, they're perfect for any occasion for a fellow Muslim, or for yourself :) Hope that was of use inshallah, take care, Ramadan Cream!
Salaam

In the name of God, compassionate & merciful بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ | Peace be with you السلام عليكم
The most life transforming object a person could ever give to another, is the
ability to read. After that, a follow up of an inspiring book establishes a sense of
'my property', responsibility and self-education.
For Eid ul-Fitr this year I'm continuing with a tradition of giving every child I know a book. Most of them moan: "Mann, can't we have another games console? Why do you always buy word games, science kits and boring stuff? ANOTHER BOOK?!" They do eventually smile and appreciate the cultural content of books, learn a new foreign catchphrases and melt my heart with a kiss on the cheek and 'thank yous lovely lady'. That's what I'm after really...
The truth is, I enjoy torturing them in such malicious hardback ways. A book in my eyes isn't a boring, useless papery thing. It is a tool far more powerful than anything technological and money-based.
For the young age groups I pretend I'm not related to, here are a few book ideas:
A story about
Ama Fatima's Eid experiences. A softer, family-hugging book, this is only £2.25
($3.67/€2.57). To purchase it, click
here.
- Available from Simply Islam: the A-Z of Akhlaaq, a book on ettiquettes, respect, good social conduct. This one is definitely for the boys (!) I like that the Arabic dua's (prayers) are translated and the cartoons are cute. To purchase at £1.75 ($3.40/€2) click here.
- This book also from Good Work Kidz is about how Eid is celebrated around the world. It's important for both children and adults alike to fully understand Eid is as diverse as our skin colours. And I'm all for teaching diversity to little minds. To purchase from Sound Vision for only £3.35 ($6.50/€3.83) click here.
If you have any suggestions or other book ideas, be sure to share - I have 30-non-related-minors to also cater for!
Jazak'Allahu khaira, Ramadan Creams.
