Anti-Semitism & Islamophobia - Two sides of the same coin |
What: Muslims Against Anti-Semitism (MAAS) are a non-profit organisation that is made up of British Muslims who believe that Anti-Semitism in all of its guises needs to be challenged. MAAS also believe that Anti-Semitism can and usually does evolve and mutate into other xenophobic ideologies, whether this is Islamophobia or ideologies against migrants who have legally settled in the UK.
Islam at its core is about emancipation from ignorance and learning and social justice. With this in mind MAAS works towards combating xenophobia and intolerance so that our Jewish brothers and sisters do not feel threatened or frightened because of who they are. "Together, Muslims and Jews can also work towards combating some of the stereotypes and myths perpetuated against Muslims and Islam."
What Goes on: MAAS regularly run talks and lectures with faith communities – in particular the Muslim community, on helping to tackle Anti-Semitism. MAAS also develop and implement innovative social change projects in order to bridge any divides between both the Jewish and Muslim communities in the UK and internationally.
If you believe that co-existence is possible between Muslims and Jews both in the UK and externally and that Anti-Semitism needs to be tackled, then we would like to hear from you. Only by understanding one another and developing an empathy, can we expect others to defend us against the scourge of Islamophobia.
