In the name of God, compassionate & merciful بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ | Peace be with you السلام عليكم
Upon seeing the album design, reading the lyrics and how fans have responded to Traveller, my gut instinct told me "average". We've heard the spiritual 'we can fix you' Muslim words before and the title track Traveller comes across as a manufactured-London-accented remix of something sweet with more kick (think Hamza Robertson meets Muse, diluted).
However, this first brash impression waters down as the album swirls street beats and softer melodies beautifully in the air; this is something purer, cleaner. The message behind is personal, of making journeys of faith, learning about life, struggling to keep moving, but keeping a smile on. I can listen to it at max volume in the car on errands, outside at a barbecue with friends - who are quite curious to know who this dude is and if he's single (sorry sisters) - and most interestingly, it sparks a valuable conversation between differing people. It only took a replay of the tracks to really appreciate the musical abilities, the delicate but strong composition and boy, does that man have a sweet voice, mashaAllah.
