Iftar in the Synagogue is a unique interfaith gathering during the Islamic holy month of Ramadhan and the Jewish month of Elul. A member of our planning committee, Jay Frank, is excited for this event , as it gives him “a great chance to learn and share” with a new group of people. Come share this experience with us as we eat, pray, discuss, and schmooze!
The month of Ramadhan begins on Aug. 12, 2010 during which time Muslims fast from dawn to sunset every day for a month and then break the fast each day with a meal called Iftar. The month of Elul, which coincides with the month of Ramadhan, is a time of repentance in preparation for the High Holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur for the Jewish community.
The Torah commands us to “love thy neighbor,” and the Qur'an reminds us that “We created you…and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other” Surah Hujurat (49:13). Throughout the night we will be reflecting on the theme, “Know Thy Neighbor.”

- Muslim Break of Fast & Prayer Maghrib Salat
