Little But Big New Year Resolutions

In the name of God, compassionate & merciful بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ | Peace be with you السلام عليكم

Happy Islamic New Year Everyone!

[Yes I know I’m late, sorry] :-) In this December began the start of a new Hijri (Islamic) year, and the Lunar calendar’s New Year is coming up very soon too! I’d like to welcome the year 1431 and 2010 with a determined attitude and hopes for change. Alhamdulillah we have survived so far, my friend. :)
Insha’Allah this year I really want to be more productive so I decided to set myself a New Year’s Resolution list of what I wanted to achieve this year. I thought that would be a good idea to help push me into achieving the goals I’ve always wanted to complete but leave for tomorrow to work on. I also thought I should share it as a Muslimness blog to encourage other earthlings to create their own New Year’s Resolution list.
1) Islamic Art – I’ve always loved looking at various artist’s Islamic Art and it really inspires me but this year I’d like to attempt at creating my own Islamic Art.
2) Completing the Quran – This resolution is for the next Ramadan because during the previous Ramadan I never finished reading the whole Quran. So this time my challenge is to complete all 30 sparahs during Ramadan. Just for those who are wondering I will still try to read the Quran whenever I can even when we’re not in the holy month of Ramadan :¬)
3) Read at least 5 books – I really like reading. :] I don’t need to say much for this resolution, all I intend to do is read at least 5 books.

4) Help Mum More – This year I want to help out my mum more. By helping her, she’ll be able to rest more, I’ll be able to learn new skills, I’ll be making her happy and Allah [swt] would be happy too.

5) Make up for the fasts I missed during Ramadan – The obvious reasons.

6) Learn more Surahs – For this resolution I’m going to ask my dad to suggest which Surahs I should learn. This year I’d also like to somewhat memorise their translations or meanings, I can read Arabic but I can’t speak or understand it.

7) Study – I hate this resolution the most, but I understand that I have to do it. I have exams very soon and all throughout the year. So I’ll try my best to study hard but Duas would be very helpful! :)

8) Health – I have odd sleeping patterns, I don’t eat properly and I sit on my backside 24.7. I need not say more. ^_^

I remember someone telling me that being a Muslim was like running a business. For example, every year businesses set annual targets to improve 10% on their profits and reduce 10% on their losses. So for a Muslim the profits would be building credit with Allah [swt] by obeying Him and the losses would be when a Muslim is being disobedient to Allah [swt]. If a business has too many losses it will go bankrupt and if a Muslim has too many losses there will be a higher chance of having to deal with punishment.

Thanks for reading, Insha’Allah hope everyone has a happy and beneficial year ahead of them! :)
