MJ's "This is it"? ...I Hope Not

In the name of God, compassionate & merciful بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمنِ الرَّحِيمِ | Peace be with you السلام عليكم

Asalaam alaikum wa rahmatulla.

I never considered doing a movie review, but I have to include it in my update for the 2 hours of my life I will never get back; I must at least make use of the knowledge -or lack of- accumulated while watching it.

Last night my sister and her husband and the in-laws were going out to see "THIS IS IT" the Michael Jackson movie, and I was invited to tag along. Free movie..goodie!

The movie started and I was really interested, for all of the opening 10 mins... I waited for it to pick up again. Finally around the 60 minute mark I realised that this wasn't going to teach me much about Michael, his life, actions, or his music, other than watching him sing and dance.

(To our Muxlim viewers: Watch MJ's "This Is It" trailer here)

Basically it was a 2 hour music video. Unless you like music videos and you're o.k. with them, watching "THIS IS IT" run non stop for 2 hours proves it's not good movie content. I wondered "IS THIS IT?" a lot. I enjoyed bits in pieces, (it was rare). It was like "ooo I know this song..." and "THAT WAS IT". Not wanting to waste our money and seeing as my sister's hubby was having a good nap we found other ways to amuse ourselves...

MJ warming up for a song (with in the first hour of the movie)
MJ (singing...kinda...) : I just cant stopppp... I just can't ...I just can't... I just can't stop ...I just can't stopppp...I just ca.-"
Me: "PLEEAASE STOP!"
My sister: "We beg of you, stop already" which of course not only are we saying with our whole hearts but in hysterics when he continues after about 80 minutes into the movie.
MJ singing: "Just beat it, beat it. Beat it"
My sister: "Seriously beat it, can you wrap this up already?"
After around minutes 90 and watching MJ's moves
My sister: "Does he really need to practise grabbing himself for a whole 5 minutes... as if he'd forget how to do that on stage..."
Me: "Apparently"
Around 100 minutes into the movie and in deep boredom
Me: "Got any eights?"
My sister: "...Go Fish"

O.k. maybe we didn't start playing cards but it was a long movie, too long considering it was back to back singing and we didn't gain any understanding of Michael what so ever.
I did enjoy a few short moments, and it did make me think about the fragility of life seeing Michael Jackson on stage full of life and thinking he was not passed and buried in the ground awaiting the judgement of Allah swt. Life comes and goes for us all. This is one of the thoughts that made me survive the 2 hours. Life passes and this too shall pass...hehehe....

Anyways.

So my youngest sister Makki did end up getting the flu vaccine and although we don't like the idea of giving her a needle for something we are not entirely sure about, another child has died in the country and my sister decided she would hate to have something tragic like that happen, and look back wishing she had vaccinated her.

This also helps protect us as she comes and goes from school where kids share germs more than cookies and she could potentially carry the H1N1 virus home.

I felt so horrible standing there taking a picture for my blog as she shrieked when she saw the needle and yelled "that's sharp, REALLY sharp, what would you want to poke me with that!? Let's not ok, no needle... No! No! No, no, no, BAAD idea... Can't you see its sharp?" And then of course her realising a minute later the needle was already finished cue an on slaw of tears and crying before being won over by a Barbie sticker. I don't blame her, needles and me do not get along either, just one of the millions of reasons I am not getting the H1N1 vaccine. Unfortunately my 4 year old sister will have to return for a second dose in 21 days... I'm sure she's thrilled...

In other update news stuff... looks like I am going back to New Zealand! (applaud here) Yes I am extremely happy to go back and see my husband, check he's got everything over there under control and I can't wait to see him. I leave at the end of this month inshaAllah.

As happy as I am to see him I feel bad leaving my dad, grandmother and sisters but I know I will see them all again InshaAllah.

My husband is also applying for a scholarship in India, and who knows InshaAllah this time next year I may be in Delhi or at least I hope so...

So "THIS IS about IT"
Hope everyone is well, I will keep you posted, Asalaam alaikum.

Peace & respect ★
