Prayer in Focus

In the name of Allah; Most-gracious, Most-merciful.

All good therein is from Allah and there are no shortcomings but my own.

The purpose of this short article is to help Muslims improve their concentration and perfect their humility before Allah, in prayer. It emphasizes the spiritual aspects of preparing for worship and In sha’ Allah (If Allah Wills) it will prove helpful to Muslims, striving for this aim.

First off, choose an appropriate location, preferably your Prayer Rug and ensure that you will not be disturbed by any frequent interruptions. What I do, is lock my room, but remember that this is not preferred since there is the chance of upsetting parents or one’s family members. Sit down on your prayer rug, in a comfortable posture, if you must, and remember the blessings of Allah.

Remind yourself that He is the Lord of the two Easts and Lord of the two West. Everything that happens, be it the falling of a leaf or the flapping of a butterfly’s wings, is all per His Commandments. Had He wished, you would not have been here. Indeed, all of us have committed many sins, significant or otherwise, in the past and we continue to do them. By allowing us to live another day, He has given us an opportunity that we may repent and turn to Him.

How Great is the Mercy of Allah that He gives respite to those that turn away from Him; imagine then, how much He calls unto those that turn to Him. We must consider ourselves guilty of not having thanked Allah enough for everything that’s around us; for all that we see and all that we don’t. A pure and sincere contemplation of these simple facts of daily life is usually enough to moisten one’s eyes and make one realize the importance of Salah, a Believer’s connection to Allah, Most-High.
